Sabchu Rinpoche Retreat
Sabchu Rinpoché at Intaaya:
“How to Work with Mind -
The Essence of Shiné: Foundational Inner Tools to Know One’s Mind”
As part of our Series “Ancient Wisdom from the World” we deeply honored to offer at Intaaya a unique Retreat with Sabchu RInpoche: Rooted in the classical Indic Buddhist tradition of the Śrāvaka path, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to engage deeply with the foundational discipline of working with the mind.
Shiné is presented here not as a preliminary technique, but as a complete and profound training in stability, clarity, and intimacy with experience.
Held within Intaaya’s natural silence, elemental surroundings, and simple ritual rhythm, this retreat becomes a focused laboratory of mind, where understanding unfolds through practice itself.
Invitation
We are honored to welcome Sabchu Rinpoché to Intaaya for a four-day meditation retreat dedicated entirely to the learning and practice of Shiné – calm abiding meditation.
Shiné is presented here not as a preliminary technique, but as a complete and profound training in stability, clarity, and intimacy with experience.
Through careful instruction, guided inquiry, and sustained practice, participants learn how to establish a reliable relationship with their own mind.
About Sabchu Rinpoche
Shiné, often translated as calm abiding, is the discipline of learning how to remain present with experience without distraction, dullness, or agitation. It is the foundation of all Buddhist meditation and the primary tool for cultivating inner stability and clarity.
Shiné practice develops the capacity to stay, observe, and understand.
In this retreat, Shiné is approached as:
– A practical method for knowing the mind directly
– A training in attention, awareness, and continuity
– A way to recognize habitual patterns without judgment
– A stable ground from which insight can later arise naturally
How the Shiné practice is taught
Sabchu Rinpoché transmits Shiné through a classical, step-by-step methodology drawn from authoritative Buddhist sources and refined through lived experience.
The retreat methodology is based on:
– Clear explanation of how the mind functions in meditation
– Repeated alternation between theory and direct practice
– Precise identification of obstacles and their remedies
– Emphasis on self-observation rather than correction or force
This approach enables practitioners to navigate confusion independently and develop confidence in their own capacity to practice correctly.

Sabchu Rinpoché
Sabchu Rinpoché was born in Nepal and recognized by the late 14th Shamar Rinpoché;
he oversees the activities of the Karma Kagyu monastery in Swayambhu.
He received many empowerments, reading transmissions, and instructions from great masters of the Kagyu lineage and from many other qualified meditation masters.
His teaching style is clear and structured, translating complex philosophical principles into practical guidance without compromising depth or authenticity.
He consistently encourages personal investigation over belief, inviting students to verify the teachings through direct experience.
